Tankardstown House Hotel, Rathkenny, Slane, Co. Meath

Tankardstown House Hotel, situated outside Slane Village, in Co. Meath is only a twenty-minute drive from Drogheda, and less than hour from Dublin Airport.  Currently owned by Brian and Patricia Conroy, this 18th Century Manor House, set within 80 acres of parkland, is a haven of tranquility and luxury.  Virtually on our doorstep, I decided this would be the perfect destination for great food and accommodation as a treat for my Husband’s recent birthday.  Of course, there was a master-plan afoot… as I could enjoy it too!

This post is by way of an introduction to the sumptuous, yet understated elegant interior of the main house.

I booked a two-night stay, well in advance, to fully appreciate the accommodation and the cuisine (blog posts to fiollow soon) as the House is a very popular venue for weddings, as well as for those who, like us, who want to experience what is on offer there.

Our Heritage room in the main house was large, beautifully furnished, and overlooked the front lawns and avenue.   There are seven bedrooms in the house (which includes two suites) with further accommodation in the seven self-catering, one & two bedroom cottages which were converted from a 19th Century stable yard.

  “The Long Room”

Each of the drawing rooms are tastefully decorated and very comfortable, with large sofas, plump cushions, and log fires. The playlist during our visit was a mix of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Nat King Cole and Etta James. Just perfect for after-dinner easy listening.

The room is reminiscent of a 1930’s style Cocktail Bar – très élégant

The Staff were friendly, very helpful, unobtrusive, and service was impeccable.  Yes, you get what you pay for, and it is worth it, in my opinion. The Staff at Tankardstown House Hotel go the extra mile to make sure every guest has a very memorable stay.

We thoroughly enjoyed our wonderful break and will be returning, sooner, rather than later.
