The English Market – Cork City

Planning what to see and where to go in Cork, I always had a visit to The English Market in mind.  Last Monday, in the soft Munster rain, we set off through the streets of Cork, with lots of information from John (@walkcork), and found it.

While it was a little smaller than I had imagined, the sights, sounds, and smells, were just amazing.  How lucky are local people to have this market in their City.  With meats, vegetables, eggs, cheeses, breads, and fish in abundance, you would never need to visit a supermarket for food shopping.

There were lots of tourists around that day, including us, and while I thought it was busy, was told after that it was nothing compared to a Saturday!  Here are just some of the sights and flavours of what we came across on our visit.

This market is yet another of of the many, many gems to be found up and down this country.  Well worth a visit, if you ever find yourself in Cork.

  1. Great photos! I was too busy trying to figure out how I was going to keep all the stuff I bought cool while there to take pics – sorry now!

  2. Wow, you're making me hungry. I wish we had markets like that. Where I live we have a market that is open Saturday mornings, but no seafood and it is a good 15 mile trip to the market.

  3. Thanks Greg. This market is a permanent one and open 6 days a week. Most of the stalls are permanent too. I really wish we lived nearer, but we are about 300km away!!

  4. Thank you Maggie. We did not get to buy anything, sadly. We had planned to go back the next morning, but didn't have the time and had to head for home. Glad now I took the photos to remind me šŸ™‚
